Justin Geil

Information Technology Service Manager

About Me

I’m a seasoned IT Manager and systems strategist with more than a decade of hands-on technical experience, and a proven track record leading high-performing teams in dynamic, large-scale environments. Over the years I’ve developed a reputation for solving complex problems, modernizing infrastructure, and building the people and processes that keep technology working — and making work easier — for thousands of users.

My professional journey covers everything from enterprise-class server infrastructure and hypervisor environments to district-wide support operations for tens of thousands of students and staff. I’ve led massive annual device refreshes, built asset-inventory and lifecycle management processes from the ground up, and driven modernization efforts using VMware, MECM, Office 365, and Linux-based solutions — all with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and practical innovation.

What energizes me is where technical depth meets leadership. I thrive when guiding teams, elevating customer experience, delivering consistent uptime, and aligning IT operations with broader organizational strategy. Having worked in private-sector MSPs, state government, and now in large-scale K-12 education, I’ve learned to adapt quickly, stay calm under pressure, and deliver meaningful results no matter how big or complicated the challenge.

Off the clock, I remain committed to community — volunteering IT support and spearheading technology-modernization projects for nonprofit organizations. I am currently associated with two nonprofits; as a Board Member and volunteer coach for Fernley Youth Football/Cheer League, in charge of their technology, and as a general volunteer for Fernley ACES with the mission of spreading Arts and Culture within the community. I have a blended family of 5 children between my wife and I, so missions towards youth and education are extremely important to me.

I’m motivated by continuous learning, creative problem solving, and the drive to build systems that make a difference in people’s day-to-day lives. Above all, I believe technology should serve people — enabling them, empowering them, and making their work easier.

My goal: to lead IT operations in organizations that value innovation, accountability, and a balance of technical excellence with human-centered support — and to build teams and systems that foster trust, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Professional Experience

IT Service Manager — Washoe County School District
July 2023 – Present | Reno, NV

I lead district-wide IT support operations for more than 50,000 students and 10,000 staff across 100+ schools and administrative sites. My role centers on managing a large, diverse support organization — including 18 IT Specialists, 4 Help Desk staff and interns, and indirect oversight of almost 70 elementary site techs — to ensure fast, reliable, and customer-focused technology services.
I oversee the full lifecycle of end-user support, from incident management and escalation to annual device refreshes totaling more than 10,000 devices per year. I recently implemented the district’s first comprehensive inventory process, creating visibility and accountability for thousands of assets across all locations.
Working closely with leadership, I help align support operations with district goals, streamline workflows, and elevate service quality through improved processes, data-driven decisions, and consistent coaching of frontline technical staff. My work blends hands-on technical understanding with people leadership, operational planning, and the ability to keep a massive environment running smoothly under tight timelines and high expectations.

I have recently enrolled in Western Governers University, a competency-based online school, to begin work on a Master of Science in Information Technology Management. This program is focused on developing strategic leadership for modern IT environments. The program blends advanced technology management, project leadership, IT financial planning, and organizational strategy, all within a flexible, competency-based format. Completed alongside full-time work, the degree strengthens my ability to lead teams, optimize systems, manage large-scale technology initiatives, and align IT operations with organizational goals.

Previously, recieved a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems from the University of Nevada, Reno. In this program, I built a strong foundation in systems analysis, database design, network infrastructure, and cybersecurity across business and technology domains. The program equipped me with practical skills in aligning IT solutions with organizational needs, managing data systems, and supporting reliable, secure infrastructure — preparing me to tackle real-world IT challenges. Skilled at bridging technical requirements with business objectives to improve efficiency and support decision-making.

Volunteering

I volunteer with two local 501(c)3 organizations: the Fernley Youth Football & Cheer League (FYFCL) and the Fernley Art & Culture Events Squad (ACES).

At FYFCL, I serve as a Board Member focused on modernizing the organization’s technology footprint—improving collaboration tools, strengthening communication channels, and managing social media outreach. I also volunteer as a team manager, supporting coaches, athletes, and parents throughout the season.

With ACES, I volunteer in support of their mission to bring art and cultural experiences back into the community at a time when these programs have been drastically reduced in schools. I help wherever I’m needed, contributing to events, logistics, and community engagement.

If your Fernley-based 501(c)3 needs technology support, please reach out to me via LinkedIn, and we can discuss what I might be able to do for you!
